自从AMD公布Hammer处理器开发计划以后，基本上所有的第三方芯片组厂商都对这种处理器感到非常关注，并且先后提出开发对应芯片组的计划。
从理论上说，由自己公司开发的芯片组应该最能发挥出CPU性能。这点就是很好的例子。这次凭借新架构CPU的发布，AMD也力推全新芯片组。我们可以看到，AMD8000芯片组可以针对不同类型CPU和不同应用层面灵活搭配配置，这点无论对于厂商还是用户都是一个好消息。
一、AMD8000芯片组规格
AMD8000芯片组与我们平常见到的两颗芯片组成的芯片组不同，AMD 8000芯片组由三颗芯片组成，分别是AMD-8111、AMD-8131、AMD-8151，不过可以根据不同的需要添加或者删除其中的某一块芯片。
AMD-8151芯片和传统意义上的北桥芯片类似，但是同现在的北桥芯片还是有一定区别。由于内存控制器已经整合到处理器中了，因此目前这款芯片最主要的工作就是图形方面的控制。它同处理器之间通过16位的双向HyperTransport总线进行连接，可以提供高达6.4GB/s的带宽。同其它系统的连接总线则是8位的单向HyperTransport总线，提供了1.6GB/s的带宽。在图形控制方面，AMD-8151芯片支持最新的AGP 3.0规范和AGP 8x传输协议，同时也兼容目前的AGP 2.0规范以及AGP 1x、2x和4x传输速度。
AMD-8111 I/O Hub芯片，可以理解为南桥芯片。这颗芯片整合了硬盘控制器、音频、I/O扩展、安全和系统管理等功能。AMD-8111芯片通过8位单向HyperTransport总线向设备提供800MB/s的带宽。虽然这个带宽相比芯片组的其它部分来说是比较小，但对于其控制的音频、硬盘控制器等来说是足够了。
AMD-8131 PCI-X控制芯片提供了两个独立的PCI-X总线桥接模块，但是，这颗芯片仅仅出现于使用Opteron处理器的环境中。AMD-8131芯片以16位双向HyperTransport总线同CPU通讯，带宽为6.4GB/s，同时提供8位双向的HyperTransport总线同其它设备通讯。AMD-8131芯片整合的内部PCI-X桥接模块支持PCI-X和PCI 2.2规范，在PCI-X模式下，它可以工作在133MHz、100MHz、66MHz和33MHz的频率下，在PCI 2.2模式下，它将会提供66MHz和33MHz的两种工作频率。每个桥接模块最高可以支持5个PCI设备，当然这种配置可以混合，比如2个PCI 2.2和3个PCI-X设备。
